WOYWW 199

MY LOVE IS LIKE A RED, RED ROSE
THAT'S NEWLY SPRUNG IN JUNE.
MY LOVE IS LIKE A MELODY
SO SWEETLY PLAYED IN TUNE.

(Listen to a gorgeous version here)

Howdy! Another balmy, tropical day dawns in sunny Wiltshire!  What? Aren't you bathing in temperatures of 80C?? Well, I am.... only when the fire's lit, lolol!! It's blooming freezing outside...our Easter Eggs will all be frozen at this rate...sigh....

The desk....
Lots to see today:
*I'm piecing out some patchwork bits to make another knitting needle case
*I bought some more fat quarters.....but they were in the sale box, honest!
* My hare knitting bag is on the table. I don't know why....did I bring it up to
  do something? Sigh.........
* I see my scissors sharpener is still out. I took it to school to sort out the teachers' scissors and haven't put it away yet. Tsk Tsk.
*I sewed the big spotty buttons onto a length of petersham for the WOYWW crop raffle. They look quite funky!

They might not actually make it on to the raffle table...cough..... :)
Here's a closer look at the fat quarters. Now this is a complete departure for me. I just don't do the chintzy look.....but these fabrics just 'spoke' to me across the crowded store. I'm getting soppy in my old age. I don't even know what I'm going to do with them....summat will happen one day...*grin*

Loads of you commented on the hares last week....I really do have a thing about them and consequently, I get a lot of hare related stuff as prezzies! This useful canvas tote holds my current knitting projects and was a gift from my lovely teacher friend Sue.
And here's my current knitting!! I'm going to make a blanket from squares made with left over yarns and 'odds'...you know, those single balls you find lurking in the bargain bins. It's only garter stitch but is great for something to do brainlessly while watching the telly. Hang on, doing things brainlessly is pretty much the story of my life at the moment!! Why change a good thing?!
Have a good week :)

AND HER HEART SAID 'FIRE IT UP'
AND HER SOUL SAID 'FIRE IT UP'
AND HER MIND SAID 'FIRE IT UP'
LET LOVE LIVE AGAIN.

It's been a busy old week...I don't know why because I can't remember what I've done but it hasn't involved much twiddling of thumbs......!!

Anyhow, the desk...
The rotary cutter has been christened...oh yes, indeedy, I LOVE it! It just speeds up the whole process of measuring and cutting....not that I measure much...cough... I tend to do it by eye. I'm good at guesstimating accurately :) So I've been making another needle holder except this one's a little smaller and not for needles!! It's scraptastic though, which is pleasing! You can also see the cardi I knitted for a friend's daughter's first birthday. I found some buttons from my stash...hope it fits!

I've just top stitched around the edge of the case.. the loops are made from a really pretty woven narrow ribbon and I've been a brave girl and used two of my spotty buttons....I'll get over the trauma soon... *grin*

And that's it for my crafting but of course there's other stuff to share!

We woke up on Sunday and had a big surprise when we opened the curtains! Harry the Cat is not impressed....

Looking out on a monochrome world...

My junk hare sculpture looks good against the white background :)

Harry's done a bit of mountaineering but nothing's improved!!

So it's just as well, with all this freezy weather, that this was finally installed:
It caused a bit of grief going in (nothing is ever easy, is it..sigh) but finally got going yesterday - yippee. And I've always wanted a basket of logs by my fire...stupid but true...that's another thing ticked off the list! Parascending's next, lolol !!

Have a great week :)

GOD'S GIFT SENT FROM ABOVE,
ONE TRUE UNSELFISH LOVE
I FOUND IN MY MOTHER'S EYES
( In Loving Memory of May Williams, my Mum)

It's been absolutely perishing these past few days...flurries of snow, winds from Siberia....perfect weather, in fact!! For staying in and crafting, I mean :)
I can probably show you this now..it's the finished article that I started last week...

It's a knitting needle case or a carrier for paint brushes or crochet hooks or anything else that takes your fancy!! I had fun making it, it was reasonably quick, used up scraps and is useful...I don't think crafting gets much better than that really!
I know I was supposed to be stash busting... but it's all Jaki's fault *grin* You see, she gave me the heads up on some gorgeous Spring fabrics (Andover Fabrics, if you're interested) and after finding out that there were local stockists...well, I just had to go and see for myself!
I ended up at the Studley Craft Village near Royal Wootton Bassett and went to a lovely little shop full of beautiful quilting cottons and quality yarns. The owner was very helpful and chatty...she has an online presence. Give www.crafty-yarn.co.uk a look. Anyhow, there were some lovely fat quarter bundles...I could have bought so many but limited myself to one pack and a single...
Here's the pack...I love these tones, so fresh and pretty!
And here's the singleton...how fab is that?? The large buttons were part of a fab display. I bought 6, they're going to be a raffle prize at the Crop.  I had a lovely time riffling through this little lot....
Don't you just want to dive in??

I was a very lucky girl on Mothering Sunday (which was a toughie, as it was my first without Mum...) My boys spoilt me rotten and gave me these as a present...
Cool, huh? They're jolly useful and will last longer than chocs or flowers... (actually, I had some of them as well!!) Oh blimey, Hettie, it looks like I'm going to have to do a bit more patchwork now!

And finally, DH and I had such a laugh reading your Log stories and comments last week. The amusement continues...DH found these whilst log blog surfing...
Um, like, wow!
I saw a fern here, DH saw a creepy crawly...
Owls are on-trend everywhere! Look at the moon and icicles and axe in the log. That's so amazing.....

I think that we're going to have to try a little bit harder.......now there's a challenge  *grin*

Have a great week!

OH, HAD I A GOLDEN THREAD
AND A NEEDLE SO FINE,
I'D WEAVE A MAGIC STRAND
OF RAINBOW DESIGN, OF RAINBOW DESIGN...

I didn't know this song until I was googling for this week's title, but it's written by Pete Seeger - this version, is gorgeously sung by the late, great Eva Cassidy....gospel, blues.....enjoy.... :)

The reason why I was looking for a thread related song is this:
See that reel? Well, it's got 1000 metres on it. That's 1 kilometre!! And I bought two as I use a LOT of white cotton. So 2km in total (roughly 1.5 miles for those who work in 'old money'!!). How long do you think it's going to take me to get through that little lot then? I started on February 8th...any guesses? That's a lot of thread to unwind *grin*

The little tissue holders have been made to give away...

They're useful for using up scraps!  I made another bucket bin...

again using fabric from my stash...

I haven't been my usual LLJ bouncy self this week (some lurgy or other...bleurgh) so have been sitting on the sofa under a fleecy blanket..but I can't NOT do anything, so I've been knitting...
Lovely variegated wool for a knitted prezzy. The colours remind me of those Fruit Salad Chews (do any of you remember those? You could get a gazillion for 2 pence. No? Just this old geezer, then!)

I've felt more like sewing again this weekend so have started on a project for a friend...

Some small squares left over from quilt making.....

Attaching a leafy green border.... but that's all I'm going to show for now as she reads this blog :)

A PLEA: Last week, someone whose blog I visited featured a mini trug-type basket they'd made filled with flowers. The tutorial was really good and I thought I'd do it with the kids in school...but can I find it? If it was YOU who featured it, please would you kindly email it to me or tell me in the comments. THANK YOU :)

And finally, we are having an inset multi fuel stove installed this week. My husband has gone mad on researching the pros and cons of wood...big time... Conversations start with 'Did you know that....?'  He's even got a meter with two prongs that test the moisture levels of the logs. Men and their gadgets eh?? I've told him that he needs to start his own blog...what could it be called?? The Log Blog maybe? Woods of the World?? Anyway, this is what our outside store now looks like:
Actually, it was rather satisfying stacking it all neatly. But it's not big enough, we have lots stored in our garage as well.....so the first post on The Log Blog is going to be a discussion on the merits of different design of log shelters I think :)  Ah well, it keeps him happy........ lolol

Have a great week!
